This pleated copper necklace was mostly inspired by Rebecca Horn's White Body Fan which I have posted about before. It's probably best only worn at night or on dull days as yesterday I think I nearly blinded quite a few people!
I'll try to take some more interesting pictures of it at some point!

New necklace...well not new, I made this a while ago but didn't really like it until I wore it for the first time at the weekend. I think I'll probably be wearing it a lot more now!
Some simple jewellery that I've made recently as gifts for people from found objects, mostly 1930s to 1960s pocket watches and keys.
Designer Gareth Moody says that his designs are "loosely based upon mathematics and heavily influenced by architecture and geometrics”. Whilst the clothes look nice and easy to wear they don't strike me as anything particularly special although perhaps this will change as the label expands. What I'm interested in are these fantastically geometric rings in burnished brass which remind me of M.C. Escher's sketches of impossible objects and perspectives.
A lazy Monday afternoon having a few drinks in the sun to finish off the long weekend. My socks and shoes combinations always seem to incite rather a lot of abuse from the local kids. The necklace is my first attempt at knitting, although it's probably cheating as I knitted the strands through a knitting dolly. The wool is actually all different shades of blue and is much more beautiful and delicate looking than it appears in the photos. I made the circle scarf using an old pair of trousers.
Once again posting about New York label VPL. I love their easy relaxed style and palate of soft muted colours but again what really grabbed me about this collection were the few amazing necklaces. In perfectly complimentary colours and this time in three-dimensions. The knitted necklace-scarf hybrid looks like a perfect candidate for a diy as well.
I've been really loving the enormous neckwear that's around at the moment and am definitely looking to adorn myself in some very heavy and exaggerated pieces. I haven't seen anything suitable on the high street though and would much rather create my own but I'm having trouble tracking down the kinds of large beads and pendants I want. I'd very much like to create some necklaces similar to those shown by VPL, a label I wrote about a little while ago. Some of their jewellery is designed by Brian Crumley whose own jewellery label Crumley also produces some inspiring jewellery of the smaller variety.
If it wasn't for the fact that bangles tend to slide stright off my wrists I'd certainly be well on my way to purchasing one of these. These were designed for the SS09 VPL collection.
I am going to try out making some of the chain circles necklaces which are simple but create a really effective look.
I have long been meaning to make more plaited and knotted necklaces and have some silk all lined up ready for them but these are inspiring me to try out some patterned versions and incorporate multiple colours.
I really love the mix of chain and fabric which seems to be a theme which runs throughout many Crumley's collections.
A few necklaces I made last year using some old t-shirts. I really should wear these more.
When I first saw the incredible neck pieces at VPL I thought they were fashioned from acrylic but looking closer at the Lizzie Fortunato Jewels site I was excited to see that they are actually made from fabric. Lizzie and her twin sister Kathryn run the label and use many found and reclaimed materials in their jewellery design. Their collection for VPL is definitely my favourite of their work as while there are elements that attract me in their own label collections, for instance i'm loving the chain and fabric plaited necklaces, they are on the whole a little too junky and vintage homemade looking for my tastes. The bold geometric shapes and origami pleating in the VPL range look bold and modern though.
